AirCar, a dual-mode car-aircraft vehicle, fulfilling a key development milestone in a 35-minute flight from the international airport in Nitra to the international airport in Bratislava, Slovakia on June 28th, 2021.

Flying cars have been quite the sci-fi fantasy for a while, and there have been a few prototypes undergoing tests in recent times. But the latest flying car, the Klein Vision AirCar has been grabbing eyeballs for feats never seen before in a flying car. Here’s five things that make this flying car so unique.

Dual-mode: Unlike other flying cars that are essentially just miniaturised aircrafts, the AirCar can actually double-up as a proper road-going vehicle. In fact, it only takes three minutes to convert the AirCar from a car to an aircraft with a simple click of a button. Basically its wings sprout from the side of the car upwards and then spread out wide. The tail also extends outwards when it’s in aircraft mode.

BMW Power: Powering the AirCar is none other than a BMW 1.6-litre motor that makes 140PS of grunt. It is claimed to offer upto 1,000km of range  and and fuel consumption of 18 litres per hour. So far, the AirCar has flown at 8200ft and reached a maximum cruising speed of 190kmph (103knots).

More Power On The Way: As if the current AirCar wasn’t impressive enough, Klein Vision will be having another prototype model, utilising a more powerful 300PS engine. Of course, with more grunt, comes with other improvements, and Klein Vision expects cruising speeds of upto 300kmph (162 knots) and a range of 1000km.

Doesn’t Need Much Of A Runway: Unlike regular aircrafts that need long runways to take-off, the AirCar can do it in just 300 meters. That’s thanks to the two-seater flying car weighing only 1,100kg, with a further loading capacity of 200kg.

Plenty Of Flight Time: The AirCar has been pretty busy in its development, with over 40 hours of test flights, multiple stability and maneuverability tests, and has completed 142 successful landings. In fact, it recently made an inter-city trip from the Nitra international airport to the Bratislava international airport in Slovakia.
