Facility management (FM) plays a very important role to the success of businesses. As the facility management industry is evolving and rapidly growing worldwide, there is a need for all professionals in the industry to have a standard and speak the same language. This will give the necessary awareness and recognition to the FM profession.
Facility management professionals from different countries through the ISO/TC 267 – FM Technical Committee are working together developing standards which are being published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is responsible for setting International standards across all industries to put in place checks and balances thereby making sure that organizations give out safe, efficient and quality products, services and systems to consumers.
These facility management standards will further enhance the general acceptability of FM by the society by ensuring customers are getting the best from FM providers who have obtained the necessary certification. These standards will also improve and add value to businesses by ensuring quality of products and services are always provided.
The FM standards provide specific guidance for individual teams and organizations to demonstrate a commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a robust, systems approach to managing the support services needs and built environment of the demand organization. It is incumbent on facility managers worldwide to utilize the ISO 41000 family of standards in their organizations and promote a common language and approach for FM strategy and practices.
