Abule-Ado

The tragic incidence that occurred in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State on Sunday 15th March, 2020 has caused loss of lives and destruction of properties. Many are injured while others have been rendered homeless.

This unfortunate incident is from a petroleum pipelines explosions, and the images from the scenes of this incidence are very disturbing. The devastating effect of this explosions is huge because people have erected buildings (such as schools, hotels, churches, houses, markets, etc.) around and on petroleum pipelines.

Precautionary measures

The following measures should be adopted to minimize the negative impact such explosions could have on lives and properties in the future.

  • No building should be erected around and on petroleum pipelines.
  • People should not buy land around and on petroleum pipelines.
  • Concerned government agencies must strictly adhere to the rules and regulation surrounding activities around petroleum pipelines routes.
  • There should be a clear sign indicating petroleum pipelines are buried underground and people to conduct their activities far away from such lands.
  • Regular inspection and maintenance should be performed on the petroleum pipelines.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families that lost their loved ones and all those that are affected by this tragic incidence. I also wish those that are receiving treatment in the hospitals a speedy recovery.

Our built environment should be made safe and lively for all.
