COVID-19: Onikan Isolation Centre

The Lagos State Government in partnership with GTBank has built a 110-bed space capacity isolation centre in Onikan, Lagos Island. This facility was built in order to provide treatment for those that have tested positive to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Lagos and in preparation should the number of confirmed cases increase.

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced this on his twitter handle @jidesanwoolu.

The isolation centre is located inside the main bowl of the Mobolaji Olufunso Johnson Stadium formally known as Onikan Stadium.

The isolation facility, which sits on an expansive area in the stadium, is divided into operational sections, including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), regular-bed wards, pharmacy department, doctors’ quarters and consulting rooms. The facility is also equipped with ventilators for the use of patients that may develop acute respiratory symptoms.

The facility management team of this centre is tasked to ensure the operations of the centre is not interrupted so that it can serve the purpose for which it was built.

Responsibility of the facility management team

The following are the functions of the facility management team in the centre. The team will ensure:

  • The highest level of cleanliness and hygiene of the facility
  • Proper waste management
  • Plumbing system is working
  • The electrical system is functional
  • The security of the facility
  • Safety measures are in place
  • Food delivery is well coordinated
