Fire drill exercise is a practice of getting building occupants out to a safety when the fire alarm system sounds in the event of an emergency such as a fire outbreak and everyone converges at a safety point outside the building where the head count takes place. The safety point where all building occupants converge is known as the muster point.
Fire drill is a fire safety exercise that involves educating all building occupants on what to do when the fire alarm sounds.
An organization should appoint a fire warden who will oversee the fire drill exercise and also lead an evacuation procedures in case of an emergency. The drill can be conducted twice a year.
What you are expected to do when you hear the fire alarm system sounds
- Stay calm and not panic.
- Exit the building quickly through the nearest exit. All emergency exits must be clearly marked, adequately lit and free from obstruction. The exits should be easily accessible.
- Do not use the lift.
- Converge at the muster point for head count.
- Do not re-enter building until it is safe to do so.
Fire outbreak happens, and there is a need to be prepared should fire occur. The fire drill helps to prepared for fire and other emergency that may occur in our buildings and workplaces.
